'Trains for Wellington' is a campaign that was started and championed by Mark Formosa, the parliamentary candidate for Taunton Deane in the 2010 general election.
Its aim is to re-establish a rail halt in Wellington before the 40th anniversary of the original stations closure in 1964.
Wellington is the largest town on the Penzance to London line without its own railway station. There is already great support in the town for reopening the existing station or building a new one and a survey carried out by Mark during 2010 showed a town very much wanting and needing the benefits that a station would bring.
The station is very much part of strategic forward planning for Wellington and has been recognised in several future development plans along with the much needed northern distributor road that would be crucial in achieving the 'Trains for Wellington' goal.
Although Mark Formosa is no longer actively standing for election in Wellington he continues to support the Trains for Wellington cause, as do Wellingtons Conservative Councillors. The campaign is also supported by many other councillors who have shown great commitment towards this objective as everyone recognises the great benefits it would bring.
Wellington Conservatives believe that the campaign must be maintained and remain in the public eye and so will continue to promote and support 'Trains for Wellington'.
